You don’t get any half measures with this dog. Bred for work, strong willed and particularly distrustful of strangers, Black Russian Terriers are able to adapt to different climates. They are also very receptive to training.

Black Russian Terriers are powerful dogs of above-average size, with solid bones and muscles. Their skin is dense and elastic, never forming folds or a dewlap. This active - even extremely energetic – breed is hardy, well-balanced but lively, with an inclination toward strong defense. The males are clearly the bigger, more massive of the sexes.Recently recognized internationally, Black Russian Terriers were originally developed from many different breeds, including Rottweiler, Giant Schnauzer and Bouvier des Flandres, which perhaps explains their iron constitution. In the Soviet era they were monopolized by the military, but have been largely demobilized over the past few decades.
