Ibizan Houndalsos are famed for their high-jump skills, even from a standing start. They have even been known to climb, so you will need a very high fence to ensure they don’t clear it.
Ibizan Hounds are mainly used to hunt rabbits when no guns are involved, both day and night. They track these animals very easily, even in dense cover, due to their excellent smell, which they combine with their hearing more than their sight. Agile and clever, they tend to have little trouble catching rabbits, especially in a pack.

Despite the name, Ibizan Hounds originally hail from any of the Balearic Islands off Spain, however they are also found in Catalonia and Valencia Spain and Roussillon and Provence in France under different names. They were most likely brought to the islands by Phoenicians, Carthaginians and maybe even the Romans.One dog flushes out the game while the other dogs in the pack surround the site at a certain distance, watching intently. They do not bark until they see or hear the game and block its path. They all wag their tails furiously when indicating the game and can easily lose the thread. They are also used to hunt hare and large game. They are good retrievers. Packs should be made up of females with a single male, as males will fight rather than working together.
